10/2 - 10/8: Tops Dollar Doubler coupons are back!

Woo hoo!  My Tops ad came today, and I was happy to see four Dollar Doubler coupons included in the ad.  If you're not familiar with their Dollar Doublers, they will double a $1 coupon to $2 with a $15 minimum purchase (that's before coupons are deducted).  There is a limit of 4 Dollar Doublers per transaction.

I was so excited to see the doublers that I didn't even really check out the featured sales yet.  Looking it over carefully and searching for coupons to match up with the sales will be on my agenda for the weekend!

I've read online many people saying their Wegmans will honor the Tops coupons, but when I called my local store the last time doublers were out they told me the did not.  I'd love to know if any readers out there have successfully used them at their Wegmans.  Let me know which local Wegmans stores, if any, will accept them!

Staples rebate = FREE paper

Because I print so many coupons, I'm always looking for paper deals. Print out the coupon here and use it when you buy a ream of Staples multipurpose paper for $5.99.  A $5.99 rebate will print out on your receipt and you can submit it via snail mail or online (which is super easy -- I bought mine earlier today and came home and submitted it right away).  Hurry, though, because the coupon is only valid until tomorrow, 10/1, and you'll need to use the coupon to trigger the rebate!

Mega Swag Bucks Day & bonus points for new members!

Today is Friday, so you know what that means, right?  Every Friday is Mega Swag Bucks Day, where the chances of being rewarded large denominations of Swag Bucks is increased.  Go do your searches now!
Not familiar with Swagbucks?  Here's the deal:

Swagbucks is a search engine (like Google or Yahoo).  You are awarded points randomly (called Swag Bucks) when you search the internet, answer surveys, watch videos, play games, etc.  Once you sign up (it's free!), you can also refer friends and family and earn points from their referrals.

I normally earn my points through doing the web searches only (and really, who doesn't already do that?  Why not get rewarded for what you're already doing?). I seem to get points after my third or fourth search and I try to do it once in the morning and again in the evening.  When I earn points for a search, they are generally in the 7 - 10 point range.  And every Friday is Mega Swag Bucks Day, where the odds of winning high-value Swag Bucks are increased.

Swag Bucks are redeemed in the Swagstore.  While there are a lot of things to choose from, my favorite item hands down is the $5 Amazon gift card for 450 points.  I know, that sounds like a lot of points, right?  I've only been using Swagbucks a short time (and as much as I try to get my search points twice a day, life often gets in the way or I forget) but I've already cashed in for $15 in Amazon gift cards that I plan to use towards Christmas gifts.  I figure by next year I'll be consistent enough about it that I will have quite a bit of free money to play with!

Interested?  Sign up at Swagbucks (remember, it's free) and start earning free stuff! And to sweeten the deal, if you sign up by 10/3 and enter code BIGTIMEBUCKS during registration, you'll be awarded 100 points automatically!

Sign up with SavingStar and get money back

If you're not familiar with SavingStar, it may be worth it for you to check it out and sign up.  With SavingStar, you register your store loyalty cards (I have my cards from Wegmans, Tops, Rite Aid, and CVS registered).  Once you're registered, you can select any available e-coupon offers to be loaded onto all of your cards (they change every month or so and I usually select all of them so I don't have to worry about missing an offer).  If you purchase anything you've registered for during the designated time period (make sure you use your loyalty card!), money will be deposited into your SavingStar account.  Once you reach $5, you can cash out via PayPal, bank deposit, or gift cards.  Keep in mind that these coupons will not lower your grocery bill -- the amounts accumulate in your account and you will get the money back after your reach the $5 minimum.

To be honest, you probably won't make a ton of money from doing this.  Then again, everyone's buying habits are different and maybe you buy more of the products they feature than I do.  I've been using SavingStar since May and I only have $0.40 in my account, so I figure if I ever make it to the $5 mark it will just be a little extra free money I hadn't counted on!

For more information or to sign up, check out the SavingStar website.

Tops meat coupon update

Recently I blogged here about a Tops meat coupon I received in the mail.  Well, I decided to hit the store today and scope out some meat deals.  I'm very pleased how well it went (especially with a 4-year-old in tow)!  Everyone has their personal price point for certain items and the price I'm currently willing to pay for meat is $1.99 or less per pound, which usually limits me to chicken and ground beef.  Today I bought a big pack of  beef chuck roast, a package of chicken drumsticks (reduced for quick sale), 2 packages of bratwurst (reduced), and a package of boneless thin pork chops (also reduced).  My coupon was good for $3 off $15, $4 off $20, or $6 off $25 meat purchase.  Believe it or not, the combination of meat I bought totalled exactly $25.  What were the chances of that happening?!? Anyway, I bought a total of 9.86 pounds of meat for $19 after my coupon, or $1.93 per pound -- under my $1.99 price point. Hurray for a variety of cheap meat!

SoftSoap and Carmex lip balm deals at CVS

I had a small but successful day at CVS today.  Here is what I bought, what I spent, and what I earned:

2 bottles of SoftSoap hand soap - on sale 2/$6
1 Carmex Moisture Plus lip balm - $3.29

I used my $2 ExtraCare Bucks from taking the pledge here, 2 $0.70 coupons on the SoftSoap I printed here, and a $0.50 Carmex coupon from their Facebook page.  After tax, I paid $5.77 (silly me, I accidentally left an additional $2 in ExtraCare Bucks at my house so my out-of-pocket really should've been less but oh well, I'll use them next time).

I received back $4 in ExtraCare Bucks (the promo is get $4 ECB when you buy 2 SoftSoap body washes, hand soaps, or bar soaps), and I will get an additional $2.99 from the CVS/Carmex mail-in-rebate found here.  Between the ECBs and rebate, I made $1.22!

9/25 - 10/1 Tops deals

I hit Tops early this morning to snag a few deals.  In order to maximize my bonus gas points (10 points per manufacturer coupon with a limit of 100 bonus points per transaction) I had my groceries rung up in two transactions:

Transaction 1

1 bag of 8 o'clock coffee - $2.49
On sale for $4.99, used $1 store coupon from the Tops ad (with $20 purchase) plus $0.75 manufacturer coupon (doubles to $1.50) from the October issue of All You magazine
Note: If you don't have access to the coupon from All You there is a $2 off 2 coupon after registering here (click on the coupon box in the upper right corner).  Since you can only use 1 store coupon per transaction and the manufacturer coupon requires you to buy 2, it would be $6.98 for 2 bags ($3.49 each).

1 box Honey Nut Cheerios -$1.00
On sale 4/$10, used a $0.75 coupon (doubles to $1.50) I received in the mail

4 boxes of Bagel-fuls - $1.40 each
On sale 2/$5, used 4 $0.55 coupons (double to $1.10) from coupons.com (use zip 90210 if you don't see it)

7 boxes of Scotties tissues - 2 FREE and 5 @ $0.80 each
On sale 10/$10, used 2 $1.00 coupons printed from coupons.com but no longer available and 1 $1.00 off 5 coupon from the 9/18 Red Plum insert

2 boxes Barilla whole wheat pasta - $0.75 each
On sale 4/$5, used $1 off 2 coupon from the 9/18 SmartSource insert

The total retail value was $35.75 and I paid $14.81 after discounts and coupons, for a savings of about 59%.

Transaction 2

3 Clif bars - $0.67 each
On sale 10/$10, used $1 off 3 coupon from a free coupon book I picked up from the Nature's Marketplace section in Wegmans a couple of months ago
Note: There is a $1 off coupon here, but it is for a variety that wasn't on sale (at least not at my store, but it may still be a good deal with the coupon -- unfortunately I don't remember the price on the shelf)

2 boxes Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal - $1.00 each
On sale 4/$10, used 2 $0.75 coupons (double to $1.50) from here

3 boxes of Wheaties - $1.00 each
On sale 4/$10, used 3 $0.75 coupons (double to $1.50) from here

The total retail value was $23.42, and I paid just $7.00 after discounts and coupons (approximately 70% savings).

Now that we are in a new gas points collection period, I have earned $0.20 off per gallon.  I have my sights set high on another hefty discount this time!  I will go back later this week to use my meat coupon that came in the mail last week, plus I'll be keeping my eyes open for any more deals I may have missed today.

Tops meat coupon

Look what came in my mail today:

On the front of the RedPlum mailer is a Tops coupon good for $3 off  $15 , $4 off $20, or $6 off $25 meat purchase.  The coupon expires 10/1 and I think I'll use it to stock up my freezer!

Inside the mailer was next week's Tops ad which I just quickly skimmed, but at first glance it appears to be a better sale than this week's, in my opinion.  It's already Thursday and I haven't even planned a shopping trip for the week since I wasn't really "wow"-ed by much in this week's ad.

New high value printable coupons

If you haven't already done so this week, make sure you check for new coupons over at coupons.com.  I noticed there is one for $0.75 off a Gold Peak iced tea carafe (these are on sale at Tops this week for $2.69, so $1.19 after the coupon doubles), a new $0.75 off Edge or Skintimate shave gel (I know Edge is on sale $1.88 at Wegmans, so $0.38 after doubling -- not sure if Skintimate is also on sale), $6.00 off any 2 Schick razors (excludes 2-count), and several high-value Scrubbing Bubbles coupons which should make for decent prices when paired with a sale.  If you don't see the coupons, try using zip code 90210.

Free candy or beverage at CVS!

Through 9/22, get a free candy or beverage when you "like" CVS on Facebook!  After liking their Facebook page, click on the Special Offers tab then enter your CVS ExtraCare card number and email address.  Within 24 hours, you'll have a coupon good for a free candy or beverage emailed to you.

Tip of the day: Join Swagbucks to earn gift cards

I realized today as I was doing a Swagbucks search that I have never even mentioned Swagbucks on the blog, and it's too great of a money maker to not mention!

If you aren't familiar with Swagbucks, it's a search engine (like Google or Yahoo).  You are awarded points randomly (called Swag Bucks) when you search the internet, answer surveys, watch videos, play games, etc.  Once you sign up (it's free!), you can also refer friends and family and earn points from their referrals.

Reminder: last day to redeem Tops gas points!

Don't forget that today is the last day to redeem gas points if you've been collecting them, and a new earning period begins tomorrow.   Can I just say I'm still stoked from filling up 2 vehicles for $14 yesterday? :-)

Friday, September 16, 2011

I'm in love with Tops gas points :-)

For those of you collecting Tops gas points, tomorrow (9/17) is the last day to redeem them.  For those of you not collecting them and wondering why they are such a big deal, let me try to recreate my gas receipt from today (sorry, I tried to take a picture but I couldn't focus in that close to make it readable)...

Qty                 Description                        Price                Total
29.436 G        Pump 6:Regular Unlea        3.779              111.24
1.000              Gas Extra Reward            -3.300                97.14
1.000               Fuel Payment                  -14.100             -14.10

You redeemed 3300 Gas Extra Rewards Points for a savings of $3.30 per gallon totaling $97.14 this purchase.

So, my husband and I waited until today when both of our vehicles were on empty and filled them both for just over $14 total.  How awesome is that???  For day-to-day needs, we usually get gas at BJ's since it's the cheapest around and convenient to home, but we were more than happy to drive the extra 15 minutes to pay $0.47 per gallon!  I'll be even happier when they put in the gas station at the Tops I regularly shop at much closer to home.

Is anyone else redeeming gas points this week?  How much did you save on gas?

Starting Sunday (9/18) we will start earning gas points again, so get your coupons ready!

Board game coupons

It's not too early to start thinking about the holiday gift-giving season.  Click here for high value coupons good towards a variety of Hasbro games!

9/11 - 9/17 Wegmans freebies and cheapies!

I found a few good deals while I was in Wegmans today:

4 Luna protein bars - FREE
Priced at $0.99 each, used 4 $0.50 coupons ("double" to $0.99) printed from here (I'm not seeing it now, but I just printed it last night so hopefully it hasn't been pulled already)

2 Old El Paso taco seasoning packets - FREE
Priced at $0.89 each, used 2 $0.50 coupons (for some reason, these truly doubled to $1??) no longer available at coupons.com

1 can of Old El Paso enchilada sauce - $0.49
Priced at $1.49, used another of the above $0.50 coupons

1 tub of Pampers Kandoo wipes - $0.49
Priced at $2.49, used $0.50 manufacturer coupon (doubles to $1) from the 8/21 SmartSource coupon insert, plus used the $1 off store coupon in the current Wegmans Health & Beauty coupon booklet

4 cans Edge shave gel - $0.38 each
On sale for $1.88 each, used 4 $0.75 coupons (double to $1.50) from coupons.com

2 bottles of Softsoap handsoap - $0.59 each
Priced at $1.99 each, used 2 $0.70 coupons (double to $1.40) from here (hmm, this looks like it might've changed to a different variety -- sorry that this post seems to be filled with not-so-useful links!)

I also used the $1 off a $5 produce purchase eCoupon from the Wegmans website.  If you're not already registered, you can sign up to receive coupons in your email inbox.

Update on hot Smucker's deal at Tops

So there's good news and bad news about the great Smucker's deal at Tops I previously blogged about...

The bad news is that the $0.75 off any 1 Smucker's jam, jelly, or preserve coupon that had been available at coupons.com is gone. It has been replaced by a $1.50 off 2 coupon (use zip 90210), which means no doubling at any local stores.

The good news is that if you printed and used the old $0.75 coupons and still need more jam, the $1.50/2 coupon is a reset and you'll be able to print it now.  While not as cheap as using the $0.75 coupons, here is what the deal will now look like with the new coupons:

$12 for 6 jars of Smucker's
- $4 instant savings when you buy 6
- $4.50 coupon savings ($1.50 off 2 coupons x 3)
= $3.50 for 6 jars of jam, or $0.58 each

Even though I was able to grab these earlier this week for less, I might use the new coupons and really, really stock up my jam supply.

Herbal Essences money maker at CVS

I haven't shopped the drug stores much lately, since I was able to get a lot of awesome stock-up deals on health and beauty products during the spring.  In all honesty, I didn't even need another bottle of shampoo or conditioner but I bought one because it was better than free!  Here's how I did it:

CVS has Aussie and Herbal Essences shampoos and conditioners on sale for $2.99, plus you get back a $1 ExtraCare Buck to use on a future order.  A couple of months back, there was an Aussie/Herbal Essences Facebook promotion where they mailed out coupons for a free bottle of shampoo or conditioner.  I've had my coupon for a while, but I've been holding onto it and waiting to see if I could find a deal to make my free shampoo even better. Today was the day!  My shampoo was free (well, $0.24 because I still had to pay the tax) and I received my $1 ECB to use on something else in the future.  Even with the tax, I still made $0.76! :-)

Today's Tops trip

This week's Tops shopping was a major stock-up on things I'll be using going into the fall and winter.  Here is what I was able to buy for under $30:

2 bags (5 lbs. each) Domino sugar - $1.99 each
On sale for $2.99 each, used $0.50 coupon from here and $0.50 coupon from the 8/28 Red Plum coupon insert (both coupons double to $1.00)

12 packages of Margherita pepperoni - $1.50 each
On sale 2/$4, used 6 $1 off 2 coupons printed from here
Note: I was hoping these would have a longer shelf-life than they do (all are use by November) so whatever we don't eat by then, I will go ahead and stick in my freezer.

12 cans Campbell's chicken noodle and tomato soups - $0.23 each
On sale 10/$10, used 4 $0.40 off 3 coupons (double to $0.80) from coupons.com

6 jars of Smucker's jams/jellies/preserves - $0.11 each
On sale 2/$4, used 6 $0.75 coupons (the first 4 like coupons double to $1.50, the 5th and 6th don't double per Tops' coupon policy), plus these are part of a "Buy 6 get $4 instantly off your order" store promotion
Note: For some reason, one of my $0.75 coupons only "doubled" an additional $0.58 instead of $0.75.  I didn't notice it until I came home and I probably won't bother to follow up with customer service for the additional $0.17.  It's still a fantastic deal!

6 cans Hormel chili - $0.62 each
On sale 2/$3, used 3 $0.55 off 2 coupons (double to $1.10) printed from here (must register), plus these were part of a "Buy 5, get $2 instantly off your order" store promo

My total retail was $94.02 and after discounts and coupons I paid $29.15, for a savings of approximately 69%.

I will go back again later this week, since I have 2 more Campbell's soup coupons I'd like to use.  I also realized that the frozen Smuckers waffles were part of the $4 off store promo and I'm pretty sure I picked up some awesome coupons for those off a tearpad a few weeks ago.  And even though I feel like I just bought a lot of sugar today, since I have access to a few more coupons I might get more sugar -- the holiday baking season will be upon us soon enough!

Cheap Campbell's soup at Tops starting 9/11

Besides the Smucker's deal I posted last night, I wasn't too excited about anything else in the Tops ad until I checked coupons.com today and noticed a new Campbell's soup coupon!  Head over and print the coupon for $0.40 off any 3 Campbell's condensed coupons (excludes 'Great for Cooking' soups).

Starting tomorrow, Campbell's chicken noodle and tomato soups will be on sale $0.50 per can.  After the coupon doubles to $0.80, 3 cans will cost $0.70 total or $0.23 each!  I generally buy the Aldi brand of these flavors, but this is will be so much cheaper.  Plus, who doesn't want to stock up on soup (especially at an awesome price) as we head into the fall?!

*Hot* Smucker's deal at Tops starting 9/11!

My Tops ad for next week came in the mail today and I am so excited for a deal Smucker's jams and jellies!

Starting on Sunday 9/11, Smucker's jams and jellies will be on sale 2/$4.  Tops is also running a promotion where you get $4 off your bill automatically when you buy 6 select products, and Smucker's is part of that deal.  Over at coupons.com, there is a $0.75 off any 1 Smucker's jam, jelly, or preserves coupon (use zip 90210 if you don't see it -- also, I didn't see it when I used the coupons.com link on the blog site, but did see it when I typed in the URL).  Use multiple computers to print 6 coupons.

Check out how cheap these will be:
6 x $2 each = $12
- $4 automatically when you buy 6
- $7.50 in coupons (Tops' coupon policy is to double only 4 like coupons, so the first 4 coupons will double to $1.50 each and the last 2 will be $0.75 each)
Total price = $0.50 for all 6 jars!

I make my own jam during the summer when I have access to cheap and free fruit, but since I have kids who love PB & J sandwiches, I will definitely stock up on these!

Note:  Smucker's coupons have disappeared quickly before, so you may want to print these ASAP!

Free brain!

Or at least a free Jell-o brain mold!  I saw this at coupons.com and immediately thought my kids would get a kick out of it.  Maybe it would come in handy on days when I feel like I've lost my mind (which is pretty much every day!). :-)

Tip of the day: Look closely at store displays!

You know how there are often several product displays throughout your grocery store?  Do you ever stop to check them out?  I mean really look at them?  Chances are if you aren't paying attention to them, you could be passing up coupons and/or mail-in rebates!

I very rarely paid attention to them until recently.  Just within the past few weeks I've gotten coupons for produce, milk, fruit snacks, Kool-Aid, and tortillas (just found this one today) and rebates for beer and granola bars by looking for tearpads on displays.

So the next time you hit the grocery store, take a close look at those displays and see if you can find coupons and rebates to save you some extra money.  If you find a good one, I'd love to hear about it -- leave me a comment below!

My 9/5 Wegmans freebies - popsicles and Kikkoman

I picked up a few items for FREE at Wegmans today:

4 packages of North Star Patriot Pops
On sale for $0.99, used 4 $0.50 coupons (doubled to $0.99) from being registered here
Note: I've been buying these every time I've shopped at Wegmans most of the summer, but the $0.99 price ends on Saturday 9/10.  If you haven't bought them yet or you have and need to stock up on more, make sure you get them this week while they're still free after coupon!

5 packages of various Kikkoman seasonings
Priced at $0.79 each, I used a total of 4 $1.00 coupons from here and here and a $0.55 coupon from here
Note: Wegmans policy is to not allow for an overage, so I expected the $1 coupons to automatically adjust down to $0.79 and the $0.55 coupon to only "double" up to $0.79 (just like the $0.50 popsicle coupons only "double to $0.99).  However, the $1 coupons beeped and a message to the effect of "coupon exceeds product price" popped up on the screen.  I figured the cashier would manually enter them as $0.79, but she entered the full $1 for all 4, and the $0.55 coupon doubled to the full $1.10.  I will say that my cashier was very vocal about not being happy about working on the registers (apparently she normally works in another department but was called to the front end because it was so busy), so I may not have gotten the overage with a different cashier (and I did have other items I was buying to offset it, so I probably wouldn't have gotten cash back if those were the only things I purchased).

9/4 - 9/10 Tops deals

I didn't think this week's Tops ad was all that great, but there were a few good deals I picked up today.  Here is what I bought:

4 boxes of Cocoa Puffs - $1.00 each
On sale 4/$10, used 4 $0.75 coupons (double to $1.50) from coupons.com (I used zip 30303 when I printed them a few weeks ago, but it looks like it may no longer be available - sorry!)

4 packages Heluva Good cheese - $1.00 each
On sale 2/$4, used 4 $0.50 coupons (double to $1.00) from here

4 cans of Progresso soup - $1.00 each
On sale 4/$5, used $1 off 4 coupon from the 8/7 SmartSource General Mills coupon insert

1 Hatfield ham steak - $0.50
On sale 2/$5, used $2 coupon I received in the mail from the manufacturer (there is also a $2 coupon available by signing up here and a $1 coupon from their Facebook page here, but since I had already printed them previously I couldn't print them again)

2 boxes of Eggo waffles/toaster sticks - $1.50 each
On sale 2/$4, used the $1 off 2 coupon from the 8/7 Red Plum coupon insert

10 boxes of Kleenex tissues - 6 @ $0.60 each and 4 @ $0.75 each
On sale 10/$10, used 2 $0.60 off 3 coupons (double to $1.20) I printed a while ago from couponnetwork.com that are no loner available (sorry again!) and a $1 off 4 coupon from the 8/14 (I think) SmartSource coupon insert

6 packages of Hunt's Snack Pack pudding - 2 @ $0.50 each and 4 @ $0.75 each
On sale 10/$10, used $0.50 off 2 coupon (doubles to $1) from the September All You magazine and $1 off 4 coupon from the 8/7 SmartSource coupon insert
Note: I noticed today at Wegmans that these are on sale for the same price, plus they had additional flavors that Tops didn't have -- too bad I went to Tops first!

I also bought some Fresh Express bagged salads (no coupons, but on sale)

My retail total was $78.06 and I paid $32.63 after discounts and coupons, for a savings of approximately 58%.

Since Tops' coupon policy is to double only 4 like coupons per day and I have another 4 Cocoa Puffs and 4 Heluva Good cheese coupons, I will be going back again this week.  Also, when I was in the produce department I noticed that Mariani dried fruit was on sale with prices starting at $1.99 and there is a $0.75 coupon from the 8/7 SmartSource coupon insert (the coupon states 'do not double' but the UPC code starts with a 5 which generally automatically doubles at the register, making these $0.49), so I may pick up a package of  these as well.

New Target coupons

Even though there were no coupon inserts in today's newspaper, there are a bunch of new printable coupons on Target's website. Make sure you go ahead and print any you might want to use, because they don't always last long before the print limit is reached.

Holiday weekend = no coupon inserts

Due to the Labor Day holiday, there will be no coupon inserts in tomorrow's newspaper. Enjoy the last bit of summer vacation!

More free juice at Tops!

The other day I posted about using the $1 off Simply Orange coupon at coupons.com to get free orange juice at Tops.  Well, I found today that the small bottles of Simply Lemonade (plain and with raspberry) are also $1 each at Tops.  Print the $1 off any Simply Limeade, Simply Lemonade, or Simply Lemonade with Rasberry coupon also at coupons.com to score some for free!
