Tops gas points = cheap gas!

We are now in a new gas points earning period.  So, I headed over to the Tops gas station on Saturday to redeem my gas points and this is what I managed to get...
Yes, that's right.  I paid $4.17 for 30 gallons of gas, or only $0.13 oer gallon.  Woo hoo!  That was definitely my frugal money-saving highlight of the week.  :-)  I'm looking forward to earning gas points again starting with this week's shopping trip at Tops, but I'm sure it'll be a long time before I'm this successful again.

  1. YAHOO! I don't even want to think about what happened to the $2.10 off a gallon that I had worked so hard to get - Hubby forgot to fill up the tank Saturday night so it went to waste. I seriously feel ill so let's go back to your awesome Victory! :)

  2. Oh, no! I was definitely worried Saturday that something would come up, I wouldn't make it to the gas station, and my points would be lost. Hopefully you can earn another great gas discount this time around, Amanda! Oh, and tell your hubby he owes you big time. ;-)

  3. Hi I'm new to the Tops gas points. I mostly shop at Wegmans but when I heard every manufacturer coupon used earns 10 points, I knew I had to get on board! Could you tell me if when you head to the station you can split the 30 gallon limit between 2 cars? Do you have to redeem your gas points all in one shot or can you go get gas one day and then go again a few days later, but before the redemption period ends (obviously)? And lastly, do you just swipe your Tops card at the pump to redeem? Sorry if these questions seem silly. Just want to make sure I'm doing this right. Thanks!! Jennifer, from Buffalo, NY

  4. Welcome, Jennifer! I hear you about shopping at Wegmans, although I can say that I'm starting to like Tops more because of the gas points. I'll try my best to help answer your questions...

In the past I've split my 30 gallons between 2 vehicles, but I did notice this last time that there was a sign on the pump saying you could only fill one vehicle per transaction due to safety reasons (really??), but I'm pretty sure it said you could also use gas cans. So, next time I'll probably wait until I'm on fumes and bring along my gas cans to get as close to 30 gallons as possible. Then again, the gas station always seems busy when I'm there so I don't know how strictly they can really monitor who's filling what vehicle. :-/

I honestly don't know about redeeming the points at once vs. using some of them at a time, since I always rack up as many ponts as possible and redeem them all at once. I would think a call to your local store would be able to answer that for sure.

You can either swipe your card at the pump or go inside and have the clerk scan it.

Oh, and just in case you didn't realize it, you do get 10 points per manufacturer coupon, but there is a limit of 100 bonus points from coupons per transaction. If I'm going to be using more than 10 coupons, I either have the cashier ring up multiple transactions or I shop at the store multiple times over the course of the week in order to maximize my gas points.
